Marketing A Celebrity

Celebrity is defined by Mirriam-Webster as a famous and celebrated person. When I think of a celebrity, I feel that person is known by many people with diverse interests. Celebrities I am aware of generally fall into a perceived niche. Oprah for example promotes many different themes. She is a talk show host. Tony Robbins is a self development guide.

What happens when a celebrity who is well known in a specific area decides they are going to make a huge difference on a related but very distinct area of interest? For example, you are probably aware of several actresses who have increased the awareness in society of orphaned children by their posture and by personally adopting one or more of these children. Now they become well known for their personal interests and beliefs.

I have studied in general what several famous people have done outside of the area for which they became famous. I asked the question: by being famous did these people automatically gain acceptance in another area of personal interest? The answer is no. Even though celebrities have a following, when they move out of their arena of fame for them to be successful with their message they and their message needs to be marketed.

As I have worked through the development of a marketing strategy with a celebrity, I quickly realized that my primary mission was to present a plan that most people could understand. The focal point was the same one that I use with all my business clients. That focal point is simply “what is the goal?”. For business development projects the goal is usually defined as a targeted increase in revenue and profits in first 90 days and the establishment of new processes and procedures to sustain that growth rate. For my celebrity client we agreed on a twelve month measurement of success which is a bit of stretch.

Once there is “buy in” on the goal statement that includes a defined time frame for achievement the steps to achieve that goal can be identified and sequenced. This is no different than my advice to business owners which is the goal that you want to achieve three months or twelve months from now is achieved by what you do each day and each week. We set the goal, we define the steps, we measure actual vs. plan and act on the variances. That’s it.

When you do this kind of work, you learn a lot about the person and their support structure. This is true for a business and for a celebrity. It is natural to want to share this information with others and particularly those close to you. You cannot. The two attributes that are most important when working with anyone are credibility and trust. Your credibility comes from the value you are adding now and not from anything you have done prior. Trust is gained by respecting those areas of the lives of the people you are working with that need to remain private. If they choose to become more transparent with anything that is their call. So it is with my celebrity client. If ever my role is disclosed, it won’t be coming from me.

Sending all my readers the energy of vibrant health, happiness and prosperity.

Is Paid Click Advertising Dead?…And This Was Posed by A Professor. Steve Pohlit Reports Resonds

A professor writes for iMedia regarding the viability of paid search. Click Here for the link

This is a perfect example of professors teaching principle based on academic research vs. actual experience. I encourage you to read the entire post and my response. The following is what I published. ………………………

Hello and thank you for the post and data. Regarding the data on blogs I am wondering if it captures the blog hosted on a server supporting a domain name. For example http://www.stevereports.com is a WordPress blog platform hosted on space I lease. I set it up without going through the WordPress site. Seems to me this would distort you analysis.

The substantive issue of your article is on paid search. I just spent a year with an eCommerce business model where paid search continues to be an important part of the marketing strategy. Every campaign was carefully constructed and revenue vs. cost was continually monitored. To give you an idea of volume the company invests about $15,000 a month in paid search.

The results continue to exceed forecast. As long as there is profit after cost of the ad and cost of the product sold the ads will continue. As this is written the performance of paid search is very lucrative for the business.

Marketing strategy is a meaningful component of The Profit System I developed to help companies improve revenue and profits. I continue to recommend and assist clients with the implementation of paid click advertising.

Steve Pohlit Reports on The Question Raised by Lynn Pierce On Why So Much Confusion?

Lynn Pierce is a wonderful business professional and is  successful author, speaker, business coach and more.  Click Here for more on Lynn

In a blog post today Lynn writes (excerpts – click above for the complete post): “It doesn’t matter if it’s an experienced speaker making the transition from fee based & keynote speaking to public speaking or if it’s someone just starting out who wants to be a speaker, author or Internet Marketer, they all seem to be struggling with the same key issues.”…..

“One thing is that the new people just getting into this industry of information marketing are spending thousands of dollars learning how to build a list or how to blog & podcast or they’ve gone to speaker training, or learn how to do teleseminars or how to drive traffic and they still don’t know what their topic is.”

In all fairness most people who are passionate about business, marketing on line and off line and developing their own independent business are buyers.  I am still a buyer and plan on attending even more events in the next 12 months. Each time I go to an event I buy products and consistently buy products that appear interesting. In many cases I want to see what someone else is doing.  I may be able to adopt some of their content to what I am working on. I think I am doing a better job of knowing my topics.

There is deeper issue and this is my comment to Lynn’s blog post:

….Hi Lynn, hope you are doing great. Your post presents several very interesting topics for discussion. That by the way is an great way of generating interest and attention on a blog based site.

There is no question that focus on a topic matter is very important. I think it is important to realize that if your topic is one that others also focus on that is good. The market is telling you there is demand. I know I have side stepped topics in the past because of “this has already been addressed” only to see someone else recycle the topic in a new package.

My thinking today as I continue to move forward with my consulting practice where I show companies How To Increase Revenue and Profits by 30% or More in 90 Days or Less with my process called “The Profit System” is that the dreams and desires of the individual must be met or anything that is successful will be short lived.

Using your example of a speaker who wants to take their keynote and develop it into an information product, if their motivation is the money it is likely going to be a mediocre product. There needs to be a passion about what we do that is in alignment of who we are. This is the reason I am now adopting my work with The Prosperity Now Program into my professional practice.

Stephen Pierce Just Posted Information On A Great FREE Resource

Here is my post to Stephen’s blog today:

I really appreciate this information. Gary Halbert taught the principle of marketing to people what they already are looking looking to buy. What better way than to identify solutions that people in the forums are seeking.

The resource you gave us is tremendous. It may be free but until we become aware, it is of no use. Now it is up to us to use this gift.

I am very excited to get started with this. There are no coincidences and based on what I am working on right now the timing of this arriving is perfect.

Tellman Knudson and Shawn Casey Just Released Valuable Free Material

Hello: I just finished reviewing most of the material just released by Tellman Knudson and Shawn Casey. This post is perfect example of viral marketing. When I find material I like, I write about it and suggest to my readers they check it out.

What did I like about the free book and videos that Tellman and Shawn just released? They demystify the most common myths about building a list and emailing that list. As part of that message you will learn their backgrounds. Make note of Tellman. This man demonstrated success on line in less than three years starting from nothing. Guess what….what he did was follow the Internet success road map. You can get a key component of that road map for FREE at http://www.listbuilding.com I am not an affiliate. I don’t think they even have an affiliate program set up yet. They are not paying me to write this. I just think it is “good stuff” and hope you do to.

What follows is the comment I posted to their blog. The link is published in the free eBook you receive when you join their list.

One of the lessons I enjoy the most in Tellman and Shawn’s book that is available when you register for the List Building material is that when you build a list some people will leave. Get over it.

For me this was a hard lesson to learn which is why I am studying the material that these guys are providing. And there is another lesson, look at the material that is being given. Does free make it useless or priceless?

I am developing a program in connection with a book that will be published this year on a popular topic. (see if you are interested at http://www.prosperitytip.com) What I know from conducting free live classes on this topic, that even with the answers clearly in front of people, many will sit back and think something will happen just by them thinking about it. I have read literal manifestation is possible, what is currently more predictable is taking focused action based on a proven method to achieve a goal. I have people who have told me how there life has completely turned around in a very positive way as a result of taking the actions they learned in the classes. Free – can be useless or priceless – it really is up to you.

I am a great student since I am setting new goals and I am a person who is fascinated by developments in business, self-development and technology designed for the Internet. This is precisely why I am paying close attention to certain material I have already studied. Like many people I would study the lessons understand them and then set them aside. Read Tellman’s story. He left Shawn’s book on his computer for three years. Then he took action. Guess what …I have had Shawn’s book for a lot longer than three years and unlike Tellman I didn’t buy a million dollar home last year.

All that is changing because of a clear focus and taking action using proven techniques for accomplishing a goal.

Thank you Tellman and Shawn for this material. I know there is work involved in making this available. I also recognize your mission of building your client base and compliment you on the methodology you are using to do that. You will have earned every dime that comes your way as a result of this process.

I welcome your comments.
